So Shawn and I are staying at the Max Planck Guesthouse which is conveniently close to work, enough space, and the cost isn’t entirely outrageous (of course, I’m comparing this to having recently lived in California so my idea of what constitutes “outrageous” might be completely off). The kitchenette is, however, very small, thus, we’ve been grabbing lunch at the very local Cafe Frisch. (Our entire circuit is a radius of about two blocks. It’s great!)
The women at Cafe Frisch even speak slowly to us and have been inadvertently teaching us German.
Because it’s so close and handy and we can’t prepare food beforehand (we could but the store is farther away than the Cafe) we’ve gone to the Cafe every day for lunch. I always get a sandwich. Sometimes salami, sometimes turkey, today tomato and mozzeralla (though I picked out most of the tomatoes – didn’t realize what I was getting). The odd thing is, no matter what kind of sandwich it is (even on Shawn’s turkey bagel today) there’s always a thick spread of butter. Even on my tomato-mozzeralla sandwich. Butter. Lots and lots of butter.
They do, however, also tend to put slices of hard boiled egg in sandwiches, which is a habit I’ve decided I love and a fully intend to adopt it in my home pracitces.
